Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) is the island's leading Ship repair, Shipbuilding and Heavy Engineering facility, conveniently located inside the very Port of Colombo.
CDPLC operates 04 graving dry-docks with a maximum capacity of 125,000 Dwt and extensive repair berth facilities. Established in 1974, this state of the art engineering entity has been servicing a wide spectrum of international clients in the Ship Repair, Shipbuilding, Heavy Engineering and Offshore Engineering sectors for the past four decades.
In the ship repair sector on average, shipyard handles over 180 vessels annually with 100 accommodated in dry-dock and the balance accommodated at alongside repair berths.

Since the year 1993 CDPLC has been operating in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Company Limited, Japan. This strong and steady joint venture will continue creating value addition to the stakeholders, especially the clients utilising the facility for repairs and shipbuilding.
CDPLC has been moving from a local player to a truly global player under the dynamic leadership of Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director Mr D V Abeysinghe and the visionary guidance of Chairman Dr Toru Takehara.
The company has been successful in developing and implementing an Integrated Management System that has ensured sustainable growth with primary customer centric approach, while prioritising green initiatives. Areas such as Safety and Occupational Health, Environment, Development of Managerial and Technical skills are being systematised without jeopardising the flexibility in operation. The shipyard?s quality system is accredited to ISO 9001:2015 by LRQA for ship repairs, shipbuilding and offshore engineering. The Japanese ?5 S? concept has been adopted across the shipyard, to inculcate a culture driven by practical and efficient housekeeping to maximise the utilisation of space within the shipyard premises. The safety is utmost priority, the ?safety first? thinking has been inculcated to all yards practices with the full blessings of the top management. Yard has been accredited with LRQA Certification for OHSAS 18001:2007 & ISO 14001:2015.

The track record of the shipyard with sound experience in handling multiple types of vessels, backed by the Japanese partner, the shipyard is ideally located to target the superyacht and passenger vessels that call the region, especially Maldives and Thailand. The shipyard has performed routine repairs to major grounding damage repairs to many international superyacht owners successfully gaining confidence for attending to high-value assets.
SHIPBUILDING SECTOR GEARED TO MEET THE CHALLANGING MARKET CONDITIONS
The Newbuilding's operation has also been revitalised and streamlined to target high-end complex projects for the design and construction of specialised vessels such as Cable Layers, Wind Farm service vessels and Hi-Tech cargo vessels. CDPLC has been successful in breaking into the Far East, Middle Eastern, Indian and the Japanese markets in the recent past. We are currently building a highly sophisticated 113 meter Cable Laying vessel for a Japanese client Kokusai Cable Ship Company. Also CDPLC has been selected as the preferred Shipyard by Toyota Tsusho Corporation of Japan for the construction of two Ships; ie. Buoy Tender Vessel and Pilot Station Vessel for General Company for Ports of Iraq
